Genesis, xli: 42. An illustration showing the moment when Pharaoh honours Joseph’s status. The passing of the ring is conveyed in a delicate holding of hands at the composition’s centre point. The exotic accessories, shown in obsessive detail, are typical of Poynter’s antiquarianism.
