The Journey of Prince Firouz

Arthur Boyd Houghton

1865

Wood engraving by the Dalziel Brothers

7 x 5¼ inches

Illustration for Dalziels’ Arabian Nights’ Entertainments, p. 737.

Houghton’s at his most fanciful, giving a sense of tangible reality to pure fantasy. The back-swept hair and cloak typify his interest in swirling arabesques, prefiguring the lines of British art-nouveau of the 1890s.
