My Treasure
Arthur Boyd Houghton
1863
Wood engraving by the Dalziel Brothers
6½ x 4¾ inches
Illustration for Good Words, 1862, p.504.
This image represents the certainties of the middle-class household, complete with plump children and a sleeping cat, the emblem of contentment. It represents the reverse of Houghton’s usual approach, which stresses the fearfulness of home and its inner tensions.
