The Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes. Artist: Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld. Engraver: AJ, inscribed lower middle left. Source: Die Bibel in Bildern, Plate 193. Click on image to enlarge it.

And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. [John 6: 10-11; King James Bible]

The artist does a fine job with this intricate composition, presenting a relatively static Christ slightly off center at the left while one of the disciples bends down to distribute the loaves as the beseeching woman seated on the ground curves her arms up. The many figures are woven together skillfully as an empty space in the lower foreground leads the eye first to Christ and then to His disciple.
