Dignitaries in Christening Procession, 1842. 5 x 8¾ inches. Lithographic print by W. Kohler for Doyle’s The Christening Procession of Prince Taffy. London: Fores [1842]. This image typifies Doyle’s political satire in which he endows his characters with over-large heads that are nevertheless accurate likenesses. The Knights of the Garter are portraits from the life, and Wellington is shown in strict accordance with portraits of the time: all that has changed is the size of his nose, which Doyle amusingly exaggerates.
