This is probably Rossetti’s first preparatory drawing of the Princess looking out through the window as he experimented with ways of representing her situation, inertly waiting for the Prince to arrive. Female figures placed in narrow niches is a recurrent theme in his paintings. Pen and ink. 70 x 90 mm.
