Another topographical illustration, this time in the idiom of the Sublime rather than the Picturesque. Dolbadarn Castle (as it is now known) was a favourite subject among Victorian landscapists, evoking a lost Welsh history in the midst of a spectacular and inspiring landscape. Creswick painted it several times. This version features in Thomas Roscoe’s Wanderings and Excursions in North Wales, facing 128. Steel-plate engraving by E. Radclyffe. 3¾ x 5½ inches.
