[Two people resting under a tree]

The 1901 Book

W.J. Neatby (1860-1910)

1901

Booklet (of designs for prospective clients): 4 1/2" x 6"

The highly stylised tree on p.2 shades a bearded man with a stick, evidently a traveller, and, on the opposite side, a woman with a cloak and a basket on her lap. As so often with Neatby, the balance is perfect, the colour is pure, and there is an atmosphere of fairytale or magic. — Jacqueline Banerjee
