Small wooden box made by W. J. Neatby (1860-1910). His great-grandson Ronald Neatby explains that it was "made by WJN and given to his son William Douglas Neatby my grandfather.... Dimensions, 5 1/4 inches long, 3 1/8 inches wide, 2 3/8 inches high." It is typically sturdy but stylish piece, with handsome marquetry on the inner side of the lid, additionally patterned by the varied graining of the wood. The initials on the top are also set off by a lighter, differently textured background. The family connection makes this little box quite a special addition to his known works. — Jacqueline Banerjee
