Cloth binding for ‘The Homes and Haunts of R. L. Stevenson’

William Brown Macdougall; unsigned

1895

Red cloth, with gilt lettering

6 x 4¾ inches

This is one of two versions for Armour’s book: one is a gilt design in the manner of Talwin Morris, and the one shown here exemplifies Macdougall’s sophisticated use of Art Nouveau lettering, a type of writing which also appears in work by Aubrey Beardsley and Gleeson White.
