Walter Crane

1892

Laminated paper on card

7¾ x 5 inches

A neo-classical scene of Mercury, but presented in the style of Arts and Crafts. The combination of arabesques and congested patterns, flatness and depth, exemplifies Crane’s manipulation of this idiom. This is one of the rarer titles, usually found in poor condition.
