Binding

Albert Henry Warren; signed

1859

Russet cloth with a gilt design

10¼ x 8¼ inches

Another luxurious gift book, which contains tinted rustic illustrations by Birket Foster and George Thomas. The binding is in the Renaissance style and is intended to invoke the (imagined) good cheer of Shakespearean England. It seems to be the work of A.H. Warren (Ball, p.164) although the single ‘W’ remains ambiguous and could be the work of a rival.
