Cloth casing, with a gilt device.

Ernest Griset.

1866

Elaborate gilt device on crimson cloth.

9 x 7 ¾ inches

This device is a gilt version of the wood-engraving appearing on the pictorial frontispiece. The two images are identical; the brass die that created the print on the front cover must have been made, probably using an electrotype, from the wood-block.
