“In the Renaissance houses of Nuremberg [oriels] were usually square in plan, with a curved Classic pediment over them. This sketch from Freiburg in Breisgau, is a late Gothic example of a square projecting oriel. Sometimes they were continued through the several stories” (I, 267).
