Nikolaus Pevsner complains about the "apsidal form" of this chapel, suggesting that as a whole it does "not join up with the rectangular shapes of the other buildings and the court" (154). However, with its Gothic windows, intricate tracery and wall sculpture, St John's College Chapel with its tall Gothic windows, intricate tracery and rich wall sculpture, is much too fine and familiar a part of this beautiful street to strike most people as "alien." The figures around the exterior are some of the eminent past members of the college. According to Pevsner, the firm responsible for the stone carving was Farmer & Brindley of London, but this may be for the interior work only.
