According to Martha Mitchell's Encyclopedia Brunoniana, the university acquired this building in 1921 and until 1960 used it to house Pembroke students, after which it was home to the Education Department (1960-75). I believe it is named after Henry Dexter Sharpe '93 (1872-1954), twelfth chancellor of Brown.
