This suitably chapel-like frontage was designed for the Wimbledon school by the elder son of Professor Banister Fletcher of King's College London. Fletcher himself had been educated at King's, and had lectured there as a young man; he had been a partner in his father's firm since 1889. H. V. M. Roberts writes, "although little of his work was important, it did not lack character." He definitely was important, however, as joint author with his father of the standard, comprehensive work History of Architecture on the Comparative Method (1895) with its superb line drawings of cross sections, cut-away views, and details of buildings; it has gone through many editions, reaching its 20th ed. in 1996, and was reprinted twice in 2001 alone.
