The former Scottish Temperance League Building

Salmon & Son (attributed to their then draughtsman, J. Gaff Gillespie, 1870-1926)

1893-4

Red Dumfriesshire sandstone

106-8 Hope Street, Glasgow

This has been described as a "little orange-red Franco-Flemish" building, wiith "light-hearted details" (Williamson et al. 227) but it is five storeys high, so it is only small in comparison with the neighbouring buildings. Rather curiously, in view of its austere purpose, it stands out because of its fanciful, imported style, and all its sculptural embellishments.
