Buildings overlooking Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh

Buildings overlooking Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh. On the Mound at the far left is the solid domed outline of David Bryce's Bank of Scotland building, with its flags flying proudly. At the centre, on Mound Place, are the distinctive towers of William Henry Playfair's New College, Edinburgh, opened in 1846 and since 1937 the home of the University of Edinburgh's School of Divinity (see "Faith in the Future of Divinity Studies"). Towards the right, at the junction of Lawnmarket, Castlehill and Johnston Terrace, is the tall spire of The Hub, the spire itself designed by A. W. N. Pugin.
