Bishop Marsden's House designed and built by William and David Jones. c. 1863. William Street, Bathurst. New South Wales, Australia. The brothers were born in Wrexham, Montgomeryshire, North Wales, Britain and came to Australia around 1854. William (1821-1908) was a highly skilled joiner, and David (1819-1899) was an extremely gifted builder with great architectural sensitivity. He built many of Bathurst's Victorian landmarks including the famous Court House, 1880.

The house was bought by Bishop Samuel Marsden upon his appointment as first Anglican Bishop of Bathurst, 5th May 1870. The unusual window seat on the front left gable was a favourite place for the bishop and it has been known as The Bishop's Seat ever since.
