Biography

Born in Dublin. Entered Schools of Royal Dublin Society, 1831, gained first prizes in anatomy, ornamental design and architecture. Arrived London, 1834, following year entered R.A. Schools. First exhibited at R.A. in 1839. In I 844 his figure "Youth at the Stream" was specially commended in the competition for t}le decoration of the New Houses of Parliament; executed marble statue of Hampden for St. Stephens Hall. Other commissions include: figures for niches in Mansion House; seated bronze statue of Prince Consort and Corner group "Asia", for Albert Memorial. [from Fine Art Society catalogue -- see below]
