Agony in the Garden; "Ecce Homo"

William Wailes (1808-1881)

1862

St Matthias

Friars Stile Road, Richmond

The window, one of three in the apse, shows the Lamb of God in the tracery, with saints holding scrolls below it. The main episodes shown here are of Jesus with the angel in the Garden of Gethsemane, accepting the suffering that is to come, while Peter and the sons of Zebedee sleep below; and Jesus being condemned to death by the jeering mob.
