Hannah bringing Samuel to Eli

Designer: William Aikman (1868-1959)

St Matthew's, Ashford, Surrey

Vestry window, west 2

This window illustrates the touching episode in 1 Samuel 1, showing Hannah presenting her young son Samuel, the child for whom she had once prayed so earnestly, to Eli: "as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord" (v.28). It is one of the less usual subjects for a stained glass design.
