Exodus, xxii: 29. An ensemble pieces in which the characters excitedly speak and gesture to each other. The interplay of hands is again a prominent expressive feature and so is the interest in naturalistic detail. The Pre-Raphaelite exactitude of the vines, fruit and wicker baskets gives the image an intense materiality which validates the idea of the Old Testament as history.
