Dewi Sant (St. David) by Sir William Goscombe John, 1917, a marble full-length statue which has pride of place in the centre of the first floor landing at Cardiff City Hall. The marble floor and columns here are very beautiful, and the sculptural ensemble, with bronze reliefs commemorating some important figures on the mezzanine landing walls, and statues of Welsh heroes at the stairheads, is dazzling. But this statue of the patron saint of Wales, comes as the climax, "dramatically isolated," as John Newman puts it (224), and is” by far the most impressive.
