Cameron Memorial Fountain

Robert Brydon (for Clarke and Bell)

Doulton terracotta on a granite base

Junction of Sauciehall Street and Woodside Crescent, Glasgow

Described as a "two-stage structure in an exuberant Baroque style" (McKenzie 352), this eye-catching piece is a tribute to the well-loved newspaper editor and Glasgow MP Sir Charles Cameron (1841-1926), who amongst much else was was one of the leading Temperance campaigners.

Compare the Doulton Fountain on Glasgow Green, which employs the same material quite differenly, suggesting its versatility.
