In this cartoon. which is crudely drawn in the style of a Victorian broadside, the Punch illustrator had drawn upon the imagery of railway switch and switchman that Tenniel and others used for commentary on prime ministers of the day. Note the candles, one of the points of contention with anti-ritualists.
