A rotten tomato bearing the words “With the GOM’s complimennts" is about to hit Salisbury, and at his feet we see another bearing the words, “With Morley’s kind regards.” Randolph Churchill and Salisbury, who led to the downfall of Gladstone's last government, feel the effects of his speeches and popularity after he left office. “GOM” = the Grand Old Man, as Gladstone was popularly known.
