The Grand Old Rope Trick

The rope trick is a well-known feat
Which conjurers many have tried.
  And an effect extremely neat
It often is found to provide:
  The wizard’s bound
    Securely round
    With cord in lots
    Of such tight knots.
    They’d baffle another —
    Yet, somehow or other.
That captive can get them untied.

Our Grand Old Operator now
  Is going to show them the trick;
And certain numskulls won’t allow
  He’s anything else hut a ‘stick’;
    While Joe has hope
    To knot the rock?
    So well that he
    Can not get free. —
    But, you bet a dollar.
    Our friend wifh the collar
Will slip from his bonds double-quick.
