Study of a standing female nude

Study of a standing female nude

Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones, Bt ARA (1833-1898)

Pencil heightened with white on biege paper

7 x 8 1/2 inches, 43.2 x 21.6 cm.

This late drawing does not appear to be related to any of Burne-jones's finished works. It is freely drawn and shows the elongated canon of proportion the artist favoured in his last years.

Peter Nahum Ltd, London has most generously given its permission to use in the Victorian Web information, images, and text from its catalogues, and this generosity has led to the creation of hundreds of the site's most valuable documents on painting, drawing, and sculpture. The copyright on text and images from their catalogues remains, of course, with Peter Nahum Ltd.
