This photograph is of the exercise yard for able-bodied men at Southwell workhouse. Photograph and text by Marjie Bloy Ph.D., Senior Research Fellow, National University of Singapore.

The Master was unable to see into the area within the red line from his quarters, because of the wall and porch. The doorway leads into the able-bodied men's day room. The yard to the left of this photograph (that is, over the wall) is that for the infirm men.
