he Society for Global Nineteenth-Century Studies (https://www.global19c.com) invites proposals for innovative three-hour workshops to be included in the program of its second World Congress to be held 16-19 January 2025. Successful proposals will engage with some aspect of the congress theme, 'Translation, Transposition, and Travel in the Global Nineteenth-Century'; be designed to include scholars from multiple disciplines as well as at different career stages (from graduate students to senior faculty members); and foster highly interactive, collaborative engagement of all participants. The format of workshops is left to the discretion of the organizer(s), but some ideas include a master class on a crucial text; a hands-on, collections-based experience; or the sharing of precirculated, works-in-progress on a defined topic. We encourage organizers to think creatively about other formats.

Proposals of no more than 2 single-spaced pages should:

When the format is appropriate, particularly strong workshops may be invited to publish participants' work in Global Nineteenth-Century Studies, the SGNCS's journal published by Liverpool University Press, either as a special issue or topic cluster (subject to normal peer-review procedures).

If the proposal is accepted, you will be responsible for organizing the workshop ahead of time and presiding over it in person. Those whose workshops have been accepted will receive a stipend in recognition of the time-commitment and labor involved in organizing the activity. All workshops will take place on the morning of 19 January.

Proposals for workshops are due 30 September 2023. Questions should be directed to the 2025 World Congress Program Committee at societygncs@gmail.com

The congress will be held at the Global Studies Center, Gulf University for Science and Technology, in Kuwait. Modern, prosperous, and safe, Kuwait boasts a unique cultural mix, a longstanding tradition of the theatrical arts, diverse cuisine, and some of the best beaches in the region. A cfp for individual paper and panel proposals will be circulated separately. You can learn more about the congress by visiting https://www.sgncscongress.com
