The Preface to Volume III offers a glimpse of the "rich repast of literary and artistic matter" that lay in store for Beeton's readers, this included " "Pym's Narrative" [which] stands in the foremost rank, as a tale of mutiny, shipwreck, and suffering. "The Deadly Snake," too, is a story of great talent, and exceeding interest." Beeton continues, writing that "the Adventures detailed in the following pages will be read with delight by all who love a correct and wholesome excitement. We must not omit the mention, with high praise, of the papers entitled "The World of Insects." We believe many boys have been led by these most delightful articles, and their surpassing illustrations, to search into the wonders of the minute creation which surrounds us on every side."
