Portraits of Four Unidentified Men. Location: Kingston Hill, Surrey. Designer and Manufacturer: Unknown. Photograph and text 2006 by Jacqueline Banerjee. [This image may be used without prior permission for any scholarly or educational purpose.]

The house was built for the father of the novelist John Galsworthy (1867-1933) in 1870. Of the three houses built for the family on Kingston Hill, this was the one in which they stayed longest. They moved to London in 1886. This large window over the stairwell is thought to be original. No one has so far been able to identify the portraits.
