A lavishly costumed Melchizedec, with a golden goblet, represents the sacramental tradition: "And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God" (Genesis 14, v. 18). His other hand is raised in a gesture indicating teaching rather than blessing.
