Bulwer-Lytton's Pelham; or, Adventures of a Gentleman

[Scanned image and text by PVA].

This plate was executed for the "octavo series" edition of Bulwer-Lytton's works, which was published between between 1849 nand 1854. Its style looks much like Phiz's work on Dickens's Dombey and Son, and far less like his work on Martin Chuzzlewit (1843). Its subject — an untidy family situation — resembles similar scenes in Dickens's novels, particularly David Copperfield, The Haunted Man, and Great Expectations.
