5 x 3½ inches

Arthur Gaskin,A Book of Pictured Carols, 68.

An illustration produced under Arthur Gaskin’s direction while Mason was a student at the Birmingham Municipal School of Art. The book also contains contributions by Charles Gere, Bernard Sleigh and Mildred Peacock. Produced as an in-house production, the cuts are printed on coarse-grained paper and bound in card. Mason’s illustration closely reflects the influence of Dante Rossetti’s designs in the famous Moxon 1857 edition of Tennyson’s Poems.
