Altar Frontal displayed at St Edward the Confessor, Leek. This is the same pattern as one at All Saints, Compton, designed by Richard Norman Shaw, and worked by members of the Leek Embroidery School. Only the colours are differently arranged. The darker panels in the one at All Saints allow the central cross to stand out more prominently there. The contrast is stronger than that obtained by the four narrow vertical stripes here — but tastes may differ. Photograph by Michael Critchlow, and text by Jacqueline Banerjee.
