Earthenware Tiles with Japanese Theatrical Figures. Manufacturer: J. Wedgwood & Sons, Etruria, Staffordshire. c. 1875. British Museum MLA 1995, 7-13, 3-6. According to the museum label, these tiles were “copied from a series of prints by Utagawa Kunikazu (active 1849-67). The red scrolls give the series title and the names of the theatrical roles, but the Japanese characters are mis-transcribed and cannot be read.”
