Binding for Favourite English Poems of Modern Times

Robert Dudley, designer

1862

Elaborate gilt blocking on sand-coloured cloth, with a cream central panel.

8¾ x 6¼ inches

One of Dudley’s most elaborate designs, including a Renaissance-style geometrical pattern framing the central panel, which is itself overlaid with a floral device. This is one of the rarest of the gift books of the 1860s; the example shown here, in The British Library, London, is an unusual survivor.
