Iron-and-glass conservatory originally built as an extension to Frederick John Horniman's home, Coombe Cliffe House in Croydon. 1894. Dismantled, stored at Crystal Palace Park, and re-erected in the gardens of the Horniman Museum, Forest Hill, London, where a plaque on its wall was unveiled in 1990. It finally became available for use in 1991.
The Museum's information sheet describes the conservatory as being "in the finest tradition of Victorian cast iron architecture. Rich in ornate detail, the fishscale design with patterned friezes lightens the overall effect to give an airy appearance. With its decorative castings and curved roofs it is very reminiscent of the Crystal Palace."
